What is a vision system?
Vision system provides the possibility of automatic control of objects in the manufacturing process. It is fully automated solution, which allows to observe analyzed objects, recognize their parameters and defects in real time, as well as eliminate defective products from the production line thanks to the information exchange between the vision and control systems.
Typical vision system consists of a camera which grabbs the image, a proper lighting and computer with software which is responsible first of all for image analysis.

On the market, there are some intelligent cameras, which offer the possibility of building vision inspection applications without a PC. However vision systems which use computers are more flexible than intelligent cameras. Software, often developed for the specific application, allows the system to be much more fitted to the implementation's conditions.
How does the vision system work?
In the course of technological process the camera grabbs the image, sends it to the computer, where individual objects' images are analysed by the dedicated software.
Correctness analysis of detail and control of its quantity can be done in two ways:
- comparing grabbed image with a model image
- object analysis on the basis of parameters extracted from the grabbed image (dimensioning, surface control, colour analysis, etc.)
In case of detecting any incorrectness or product defect, system sends a signal, which can be next delivered to the control or mechanics systems in order to remove defective products or can be visualized on the monitor informing the operator about any noticed incorrectness.
Functionality of vision systems
- shape inspection,
- observed objects counting,
- measurement of part or the whole object (dimensions, diameter, angle, distance, etc.),
- colours recognition,
- detection and recognition of dates, overprints, patterns, labels and other details correctness,
- bar codes and 2D data codes detection
- checking the repletion state and the product existence in the package,
- damages, material defects and surface's pollution detection,
- assembly process control.
