On the 22nd May 2007 we implemented a vision system for automatic inspection of tablets quality in the Polish pharmaceutical company. The vision system controls tablets during the process of their packing on the plate counter. It detects the following defects:

• quantitative lack of tablets in the packet,
• tablets mechanical damage (break, crumble),
• essential tablet's overcolouring.

The system controls tablets in the all possible colours and sizes (range 6-9 mm). Above the plate of the plate counter, there is placed a camera in the special housing, which grabs a picture and sends it to the computer. Then the image is analysed by the dedicated software. When the defect is detected, system informs the operator by displaying the number of missing or broken tablets on the monitor and giving the voice message.
